CRAZY RICH ASIANS
Kevin Kwan
I guess I have some time on my hands, because I’m picking up the habit of reading again hahaha. And I guess with Christmas coming, it feels like the right season for light-hearted books such as this one.
Set in the too-familiar background of Singapore, I had a lot of fun watching the drama unfold in this book. Every chapter was deliciously gossipy and bitchy – I mean, ok usually this would not be my go-to book but hey, it’s the holidays and my brain deserves some bimbo action. Crazy Rich Asians is the Singaporean version of gossip girls. Plus rich parents, and the cute way it describes Singaporeans when it comes to food (oh yes we argue about where the best Hokkien mee is sold).
The best part was the about the things that rich people do, like flying in private jets (which will never happen to me in my lifetime), and buying couture dresses, and downplaying their wealth. (I mean, I always tell people I’m very broke, but it’s true.)
The ending was a little bit disappointing with no real conclusion as to how they’re gonna solve the whole rich-family-looking-down-on-poor-family issue, but it was fun while it lasted.
